This course is an introduction to the medical terminology and anatomy of the human body and includes the chemistry, structure and function of membranes, cells, tissues, organs and organ systems. Emphasis on physician-directed patient assessment, examination, and treatment. Includes vital signs, collecting and documenting patient information, asepsis, clinical office procedures, and other treatments appropriate for the hospital setting. Additionally, relevant laboratory processes such as aseptic technique, various laboratory departments and personnel, laboratory integrity requirements, and laboratory safety practices are examined. A health-care work-based learning experience that allows the student to apply specialized theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is performed by a clinical specialist. Demonstrate proficiency in clinical procedures such as applying a sterile drape, using an autoclave, and recording and reporting vital signs. Prerequisite: MACT200
Students will discuss the concepts of microbiology and disease transmission. Students will learn charts, vital signs, measurements, visual acuity, patient positioning, and drapes. Students will learn to identify equipment, perform sterile procedures, including suture removal, and assist surgeons in small office surgeries. Physical therapy, pediatric and pediatric care, and medical office safety concepts are discussed along with patient instruction and laboratory procedures such as venipuncture and capillary puncture, urinalysis, and Gram stain testing, along with sections on microscopy, hematology, microbiology, and chemistry training. . A health-care work-based learning experience that allows the student to apply specialized theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is performed by a clinical specialist. Demonstrate student proficiency in professional mathematics and metric conversion, use of PDR, and understanding of general pharmacology. Prerequisite: MACT 100

Clinical skills such as cleaning wounds, performing blood tests and using various laboratory equipment. Prerequisite: MACT 110
This course introduces students to the subject of medical health records. Students consider inpatient and outpatient scenarios and the differences between paper and electronic files. The course examines the benefits and risks of electronic medical records with a focus on HIPAA compliance, health care laws, and ethics, including the study of privacy, confidentiality, security, professional ethics, and health care law. Students will learn how to apply local, state, and federal standards and regulations for the control and use of health information in health care settings. Prerequisites: none

This course will allow students to gain practical experience in a relevant medical setting. Prerequisites: Completion of all medical assistant classes, all current financial obligations, and recommendation from a teacher and external coordinator.
